Midwifery Care
Susie Corcoran CNM, FNP-C, MN, RN
Susie Corcoran started down the road toward becoming a midwife after the birth of her first child in 1987 and is now a Certified Nurse Midwife and a Family Nurse Practitioner. Having been apprehensive of childbirth, she was amazed at how well the process worked and embarked on the journey to midwifery in order to help other women through the miraculous process of birth. She has a wealth of experience and has delivered babies in homes, birth centers, hospitals and lots of other creative birthing spaces!
Passionate about functional medicine, Susie has been bringing these concepts into her midwifery practice and likes to consider herself a 'functional midwife'. And increasing number of women of childbearing age today have complex medical issues such as gestational diabetes, high blood pressure, pre-eclampsia, autoimmune disorders, and chronic intestinal problems and dysbiosis all of which can make a profound impact on the pregnancy and birth and beyond. Using comprehensive functional medicine approaches toward diet, supplements, and overall self care during pregnancy can help a woman to have the healthiest pregnancy possible, which of course leads to a healthier infant and postpartum period. Susie initially practiced independently as an LDM before deciding to return to school to become a CNM. She received a Masters in Midwifery from OHSU in 2003 and in 2009 she completed her Post Masters in Family Practice and expanded her scope to include primary care across the lifespan. |
